At Bright Lite, we originate and develop profitable, locally-sustainable infrastructure projects that improve communities. We have already installed our projects across the globe and are now developing new and more effective ways to locate ideal locations for distributed and centralized generation, notably solar, wind, and fuel cell projects. We site projects to capitalize on the interdependent needs, interests, and opportunities of communities and regions. We develop and deploy next-generation tools and techniques to increase developer effectiveness, increase project profitability, and decrease permitting risk. We develop projects and consult on other project and development initiatives.

Our Team

Greg Hering, President

Greg Hering is the founder of Bright Lite Energy. Since 2006, Greg has consulted on and developed renewable energy projects, specializing in developing high-value projects that fit well in the community. At Bright Lite, he leads the development of next-generation siting technologies that Bright Lite uses to prospect and design high-value projects.

Background bio(1)

Prior to starting Bright Lite, Greg co-founded Solventerra, a Boston-based Renewable Energy Company focused on developing ground-mounted solar projects from 1-6MW in Massachusetts. At Solventerra, Greg was Director of Development and lead the company’s prospecting, designing, and permitting efforts. During his time, Solventerra developed 13.8MW of solar. Prior to co-founding Solventerra, Greg founded Emergent Energy Group, a renewable energy consulting and development company. Emergent performed wind-energy feasibility studies and master plans for industrial and municipal clients across the Northeastern United States through its consulting business. On the development side, Emergent originated a portfolio of New Jersey solar projects and did initial prospecting for a portfolio of wind projects in New Hampshire and Maine. Emergent won BusinessWeek’s Top Company in America Run by People Under 25.

Greg graduated from Tufts University with a BSE in Engineering Sciences, minored in Entrepreneurship, and completed coursework at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy in international finance & management.

As an associate in engineering and development, Colby’s expertise spans the development process. Colby researches and develops mapping applications and algorithms to expedite Bright Lite’s acquisition of sites that are ideal for all stakeholders. During a development campaign, she researches and incorporates regulatory structures and environmental permitting constraints to help build prospecting models for site identification. Following site identification, Colby supports sales and marketing operations, and is responsible for environmental and permitting due diligence. She provides critical documentation to Bright Lite’s investors and development partners using her knowledge of the market and sites that began in the earliest prospecting operations.

Colby joined Bright Lite in 2014 and has a BS in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in energy technology from Boston University.
